NDIS skill development refers to support that helps participants with disabilities build the practical life skills needed for greater independence. This can include personal care, cooking, budgeting, communication, employment readiness and community participation. Under the NDIS, skill development is typically funded through the Improved Daily Living (IDL) or the Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation (SCECP) categories.
Any NDIS participant whose plan includes funding for Improved Daily Living or Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation may be eligible for skill development support. Eligibility and the level of funding available depends on your individual NDIS plan. Contact Disability Connect Victoria to discuss your plan and explore how our skill development programs can align with your goals.
Our skill development sessions are conducted on a one-on-one basis, tailored entirely to the individual’s goals and pace. A matched support worker works with the client in their home or community setting, focusing on the specific skills outlined in their support plan. Sessions are flexible in frequency and duration to suit each person’s needs and available NDIS funding.
Yes. Employment readiness is one of the key areas we support through our skill development programs. This can include building professional communication skills, understanding workplace expectations, managing time and organisation, preparing for interviews and exploring vocational pathways. We work with clients to identify realistic employment goals and create a clear plan to build the skills needed to achieve them.
We use an advanced matching system that considers each client’s goals, interests, personality and specific skill development needs alongside the experience, skills and background of our support workers. This careful matching process ensures the client is paired with a worker they are comfortable with and who is best placed to support their growth. We review matches regularly to ensure the relationship continues to work well.
